There is a global education crisis, and the statistics are staggering .
Sometimes it’s hard to get your head around statistics, especially when the numbers run into hundreds of millions. But if you can imagine the entire population of Europe was illiterate, you are close to seeing the scale of the global crisis we are facing.
More than 750 million people in the world are illiterate.
An estimated 121 million children of primary and lower secondary school age do not have access to education.
Education supports gender equality through the empowerment of women; It boosts economic growth, reduces child mortality and promotes long-term environmental stability.
~ A child, whose mother can read, is 50 % more likely to survive past the age of 5.
~ 53% of the world’s out-of-school children are girls, & 2/3 of the worlds illiterate are women
~ If all women had a primary education, there would be 1.7 million fewer malnourished children.
~ Over 40 years, equitable access to quality education can help a country to
raise its gross domestic product per capita by 23%.
“Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world”.
Nelson Mandela

In 2014 Classroom of Hope invited me to document their project in South East Asia.
Working with local NGO's, they were building schools and helping develop the essentials for safe,
quality education in rural areas of Cambodia.
The project highlighted to me the great need and also the great work being done to help. I became their official field photographer.
Since that time my imagery has helped to shape the campaigns and social reach of this incredible charity organisation.
I continue to support their campaigns (and the campaigns of other charity organisations) with trips to Cambodia, Northern Thailand Rwanda, and whatever comes next.
My time in supporting the work of these organisation pays me back in pride and purpose.
